What does Veeam Backup do?

A Veeam backup is an image-based backup. We create a backup of the entire virtual machine using the VMware Snapshot feature, copying the files/disks at block level.
In other words, we take a snapshot of the virtual machine. This is the state of the virtual machine disk file (VMDK) at a certain moment in time.
We then make a copy of all data from this snapshot. The snapshot is then deleted.
We also have the backups of databases (the files are included), but these may not be consistent. Any inconsistencies are the result of data that is in memory but has not yet been ‘committed’ to the database.
We recommend that you make dumps of your databases daily/weekly so they can be included in our Veeam Backup.
