What is the Whois database?

The Whois database is a publicly accessible database containing the owner’s details and contact person of every domain name as well as the name server data. When registering a domain name, your data will be registered in the Whois database.
 
You can use this database to find the owner of a particular domain name. But there are restrictions in order to prevent abuses. You can retrieve only 1 domain name per second and 100 domain names per hour. Every visitor agrees not to use this site or its content for any commercial purposes.
