What is VPS/Virtual Private Server?

A virtual server is a special kind of server where several virtual and independent operating systems run on one physical machine. This way it looks as if there are multiple servers. This has the following advantages:

  • More efficient use of server hardware and power. More environment friendly!
  • Yet the comfort of having your own server. You install all the programs you want and you do not need to worry about other users.

Hostbasket uses Hyper-V virtualization on its Windows servers 2008.
